Dr. Luis E. Segura is a social epidemiologist whose research explores the intersections of substance use, mental health, causal inference methods and health disparities. His work examines the patterns and consequences of substance use, with a particular focus on how social and structural determinants shape health outcomes. Dr. Segura investigates epidemiologic trends in alcohol, opioid, cannabis, and stimulant use, their impact on physical and mental health, the drivers of deaths of despair, and the application of advanced causal methods to improve public health research. His research further explores how policies influence substance use outcomes, aiming to inform more equitable and effective public health interventions.
